Blankets for Recovery
With your help, we can support our wounded warriors and veterans. Blankets for Recovery is a major project of Flags Across The Nation. Over the past seven years volunteers from Memorial United Methodist Church based in Charlotte, North Carolina have been bringing the warmth and love of handcrafted blankets to the hearts of our recovering servicemen, servicewomen and veterans. Over 650 blankets have been created for our military and veterans.
Create your gift of hand-made blankets. Crochet, knit, quilt or sew your blankets. Write a note to go along with each blanket. Send the blankets to the FLAGS P.O. Box address in Charlotte, NC. We will mail your blankets to different military locations throughout the US. Most recently over 27 blankets were delivered to the Soldier and Family Assistance Center at the Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. We have also mailed blankets directly to recovering soldiers. Contact us directly if you know someone who has been wounded and is in a recovery program. Recipients of Blankets for Recovery have shared their sincere appreciation for the love and blessings the blankets represent. You can make a heartfelt difference.
Suggested types of materials and blanket styles to knit, crochet, quilt or sew:
Use acrylic yarn (Red Heart Super Saver is preferred by many blanket makers).
Use 100% cotton fabric for quilts. Everything has to be washable.
Use a fleece-type material for sewn blankets.
Our preference is red, white and/or blue.
